Seven-year-old Kyron Horman disappeared on June 4, 2010, from the grounds of his school in Portland, Oregon. Closer returns to this mysterious case.
On the day of his disappearance, he wore a t-shirt from the series The experts. Little did he know that his life would soon become a criminal affair. On June 4, 2010, 7-year-old Kyron Horman arrived at Skyline Elementary School in Portland, Oregon. Accompanied by his mother-in-law, Terri Horman, the boy prepares his stand for the day’s science fair and heads for his classroom. From a distance, Terri waves to him and watches him walk away. This is the last time Kyron Horman was seen alive.
Around 3:30 p.m., Terri, her husband Kaine Horman and their daughter Kiara (Kyron’s father and little sister) go to the school bus stop to meet Kyron there. But on arriving, the driver claims not to have seen the boy get on the bus… Worried, the family leaves for school and makes a disconcerting discovery: that same morning, Kyron has not shown up for his first class. Alerted, the authorities open an investigation and launch a large-scale search operation. More than 1,300 people travel from Oregon, California and Washington State to lend a hand to investigators. Around the school, forests, parks and entire towns have been combed through, in vain. Little Kyron Horman has vanished.
Terri Horman at the heart of the investigations
At the same time, the police investigate and turn to the last person to have seen Kyron alive: Terri Horman. The boy’s mother-in-law says she left elementary school around 8:45 a.m. before going shopping at two different stores. Afterwards, at around 10.10 a.m., she claims to have been in her car for more than an hour to calm her daughter, Kiara, who was suffering from an ear infection, then went to a gym at around 11.39 a.m. A very normal course, but which nevertheless leaves the investigators skeptical. How to prove that Terri Horman is telling the truth about her actions?
It must be said that Kyron’s stepmother makes a perfect suspect. In addition to being the last person to have seen him alive, Terri had a very complicated relationship. with him. According to Kyron’s birth mother, Desiree Young, Terri blamed her son for the problems she was having in his relationship with his father, Kaine. “She blames Kyron for a lot of the difficulties she has with Kaine. It was a big point of contention in their marriage and she had expressed her hatred for Kyron in detail. I am now convinced that she is not only capable of hurting Kyron, but that she could have done the worst.”confided, later, the mother of the little boy.
She would have offered “a large sum of money” to get rid of her husband
And that’s not the only thing that accuses Terri Horman. In June 2010, just days after the disappearance of little Kyron, Rodolfo Sanchez, the family’s landscaper, contacted the authorities. He claims that in January 2010, the mother-in-law gave him “a lot of money” to rid her of her husband. To prove the truth of this testimony, the police ask Sanchez to wear a bug during a conversation with Horman. Unfortunately, the business fails and the police lack the evidence to arrest her.
Twelve years later, little Kyron Horman remains untraceable and his stepmother, who has since divorced Kaine Horman, denies any involvement in the disappearance of her ex-stepson. Guest on the set of Dr. Phil in 2016, she said: “There was a man in a white Ford van parked on Highway 30 at 7-Eleven (…). He was behaving very oddly and a 7-Eleven employee even spoke to him because he was walking back and forth for an hour.” Was Kyron Horman the victim of a kidnapping? The mystery remains.
