SPVie Assurances wants to double in size in two years

SPVie Assurances does not hide its ambitions. The fourth wholesale insurance broker in France, which achieved a turnover of 88 million euros in 2021, unveiled its 2022-2024 strategic plan with the ambition of becoming number two in the sector behind April. To achieve a turnover of 160 million euros at the end of 2024, the group created in 2010 with more than 400,000 beneficiaries and 60 million euros in intermediated premiums is relying in particular on restructuring and new governance with the desire to turn the control page of the ACPR (Prudential Supervisory and Resolution Authority) which occupied her for many months.

“The group has nothing to do with the one created a dozen years ago,” explains co-founder Jérémy Sebag, who has led SPVie so far with Cédric Pironneau, also co-founder. The two men left the operational reins, “to think about the next move”, to a new duo of deputy general managers: the former Axa Matthieu Bébéar, in charge of wholesale and direct sales management, and Renaud Adde , in charge of the group’s mass-market sales department. “It was important to structure ourselves for the development we are aiming for,” says Matthieu Bébéar. “We are not selling our shares, nor the company”, nevertheless wishes to reassure Jérémy Sebag.

The strategy is summarized by Renaud Adde: “We want to become the preferred wholesale broker for brokers with a presence on all distribution channels.” SPVie is targeting 3,000 partner intermediaries against 1,500 partner brokers at present. It is also relying on a network of 200 insurance intermediary agents compared to around 60 since the launch at the end of 2020. At the digital level, the broker wants to establish itself as the leader using its own open API platform to deliver micro-services to insurance companies and local brokers. “It requires a large budget, investments of several million euros, but necessary,” said Jérémy Sebag. The number of employees should also double to reach 1,000 employees.

Refinancing

SPVie wants to accelerate on the damage business, which represents 10% of its turnover, while remaining focused on personal insurance by completing its range. The wholesale broker will focus more generally on two markets: individual retirement, with an individual retirement savings plan offer (PERin) which will be unveiled this summer, and that of expatriates, with the arrival of Marco Sgarbi as director. of the segment from April international. SPVie also does not intend to miss the opportunity created by the Lemoine law on the borrower insurance market: “We are going to go there either by an acquisition or by developing ourselves internally”, announces Jérémy Sebag, who warns “We will overturn the table. »

This roadmap requires funds. “It is obvious that we will have to refinance ourselves. Especially since we will not reach 160 million euros in turnover without external growth, ”admits Jérémy Sebag. He could, for example, be tempted by opportunities on groups distributing auto insurance and multi-risk home insurance. At the start of 2020, the broker raised 70 million euros with the Essling expansion fund and subsequently acquired Assurances de l’Adour and then the complementary health management subsidiary CGRM from Gras Savoye Willis Towers Watson.
