OnePlus Nord 2T review: an efficient smartphone

The Nord 2T being an evolution of the Nord 2, it is not surprising that it takes over the dorsal photo block. The smartphone therefore houses a main module comprising a 50 megapixel sensor with wide-angle optics (f / 1.9), another with an 8 megapixel sensor and ultra wide-angle optics (f / 2 ,2), and finally a 2-megapixel depth sensor.

As is now almost always the case, the pixel binding is at work on the North 2T. It therefore allows you to capture 12.5 megapixel shots. They are generally of good quality, thanks in particular to a certain sharpness at the periphery of the image, which is not quite the case with the shots of the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G. In the center of the image, however, we notice that, as usual, OnePlus offers a fairly aggressive image processing. The details stand out, especially on the cover of the book, and the small elements are rather clear, but we note that the contrasts are a little too marked to be really natural. Digital noise, on the other hand, is less than on the Xiaomi model.

If we compare the Nord 2T to the Nord 2, the difference is obvious in the context of night photos. The level of detail is much higher; the much better sharpness and extreme smoothness seen on last year’s model is gone. The terminal also does much better than Xiaomi’s smartphone, whose contrast is too low for the information to be really usable. This does not mean, however, that the Nord 2T delivers a flawless image: the colors are desaturated, some contours lack precision and slightly blurred areas are visible.

50 megapixel mode

The processing, less important in 50 megapixels, makes it possible to obtain a rendering less (over) contrasted, and therefore appearing more natural. But the smoothing of daytime photos is still visible. At night, the result is very similar in 50 and 12.5 megapixels: it is not really necessary to increase the definition of the photos.

Ultra wide-angle module: 8 megapixels, f/2.2

Compared to the Nord 2, the improvement in processing provided by OnePlus is also noticeable on the Nord 2T. Its ultra wide-angle module makes it possible to obtain shots with much less accentuated contours and, consequently, more pleasing to the eye. Faced with the Redmi Note 11 Pro + 5G, we perceive greater clarity, despite failures on certain small elements. Examination of all the images shows that the smartphone is able to correct the distortion that remains visible on the periphery of Xiaomi’s shots.

OnePlus Nord 2T

Without excelling, the Nord 2T does better than Xiaomi’s terminal after dark. But the treatment, while trying to restore certain contours, stumbles and “invents” elements, such as the character’s eye on a blue background. At least we can enjoy shots with controlled distortion…

Front module, portrait and video mode

The Nord 2T retains the 32-megapixel front photo module of the Nord 2, whose sensor is associated with an f/2.4 wide-angle lens. There is a tendency to smoothing, but the quality is all the more satisfactory as the portrait mode ensures a generally natural clipping. It can also be personalized as needed – and associated, for those who want it, with options for beautifying the face. For the rest, this front module allows you to shoot in 1080p at 30 fps, while on the back, it is possible to shoot videos up to 4K at 30 fps, with electronic stabilization.
